Question:

Cat Scan for Hernia, need to drink Barium Sulfate Suspension?

Going in early tomorrow for a cat scan to rule out a hernia.

I need to drink two bottles of Barium Sulfate Suspension.

The last time I drunk any of the stuff was back in the mide 1990's and after drinking a little of it, I got very ill.

I will need to stop eatting 4 hours before the cat scan.

What I need to know is should I drink that stuff on an empty stomach or on a full stomach?

And would it be best to just glup the drink down or drink little slips of the drink?

  1. You may have become sick because of an allergic reaction to some minor component of the suspension (such as a dye or a flavoring or such).  You must alert your physician to this issue promptly, before ingesting that substance.
