Question:

Cat Won't Go To Sleep?

Allright, so a problem with my cat has come up over the past few days. I have had him for over a year now, and every night we go through a routine where I put him out before I go to sleep. In the past, he got the idea and went to bed as well. But over the past few nights for whatever reason, he constantly scratches on the door at all hours of the night while meowing like crazy, keeping me up all night.

There doesn't seem to be anything outside that would be freaking out and I make sure that he has enough food and water and everything. I really have no idea what he might want or what might be different than before.

Any ideas? I honestly just want him to shut up so I can get a night's sleep. I really have no clue what he wants.

  1. By outside do you mean "outside your bedroom door" or out in the yard?

If your putting him out in the yard something must be out there that is making him frightened if this is not something he normally does.

If it's just outside your bedroom door..is there any reason why you can't let the cat in for one night and find out why it is that he wants to get in with you so badly?

Letting him in your room and loosing one more night of sleep while you figure him out (maybe he just wants to be close to you for some reason...are there new or strange people in the home...have you redecorated or moved furniture in other parts of the home?) isn't going to hurt is it?

Cats are very perceptive, so if this is an indoor only cat, maybe there is something outside that he is trying to tell you about.  It could be most anything.  What ever it is, it's obviously worth trying to figure out.  My first reaction though would be to open the door and let him spend a night in the room with me and see what happens after that.
