Question:

Cat allergies HELP?

i have always wanted a cat and i have tirelessly begged my mum for one for years but the answer has always been no. The reason why is because my dad is allergic to cats. Anyway i was reasearching breeds and i found that only some breeds of cats dont affect allergies as much like the ragdoll. The weird thing is my dad wasnt always allergic to them, he just got an allergie to them when he was about 13. Is there any way of getting rid of cat allergies or from preventing my dad getting a reaction to them?

can you tell me about a few things that have worked or might have worked like lots of vacuming certain food to feed a cat or do i have to wash the cat regularly?

please help because my mum said if i can find ways on stopping my dads allergic reactions she will let me get a cat :D

  1. There are way to work around it. The person could get an allergy shot, take anti histamine medicine such as Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra, or Benadryl.

A short haired cat would be much better. Also, female produces less allergen than males although neutered male will also produce less.

The cat will need to be brushed daily with a soft brush to remove allergy causing dander and saliva. Wipe it daily with a towel or sponge moistened with distilled water.

A product called Allerpet is designed to reduce the allergens in dander and cat saliva. You can check it out here:-

Shampoo every two weeks with a mild pet shampoo and creme rinse. The cat needs to be fed on a balanced diet containing natural fat.

Remove pet food dishes and wash after feeding time. Clean cat beds often.Allergy proof the house by installing a HEPA fair purifier and use AC and humidifiers in season. Smoking should be prohibited and vacuum often when the person is not at home.

It will take quite some work but it is possible to live with a cat when one is allergic to one.

  2. ive read that if your cat is neuted/spayed they give off less allergin.

one of my friends is allergic to cats and before she comes round i open all windows to keep the place well ventilated, hoover regularly, i wash my cats twice a month which reduces allergin,

also they say young cats are ok as there skin is supple less of the allergin is given off.

sometimes beeing around what sets the allergy off can build up an immunity to it which it time will get better.

  3. well get an air purifier and a allergy medison brush the cat so his fur dont get all over and thats about it
