Question:

Cat being on bed sick of it

I have two cats one male and female. The male I got as a kitten in November and has been trouble. He has peed on my bed and another family member's and always gets in trouble. He is neutered, I tired punishing him by putting him in a cage, using spray water, the box is cleaned everyday, and he is healthy, what should I do? I might send him packing to the shelter.

  1. yr best bet is to just keep the bedroom doors shut during the day and night if possible if u punish him by putting him in a cage then he may get angry or depressed hope it all works out for him and you

  2. Is he litter trained?  That could be the problem.  If he keeps it up, when ever you see him on the bed, say "NO" and take him to the litter box.  I don't think slapping them or anything is really necessary, I find it kind of harsh actually.  You can get a spray or something from the pet store that will also help to keep him off unwanted areas.  I usually pick up my kitten, say no and then place her down somewhere else if she does something bad or goes somewhere she's not supposed to.  Usually, she'll go back there once more so I repeat what I have done before, and she never goes back again.

  3. They have sprays to keep cats away from certain areas just go to petsmart and try that good luck

  4. Cats are like kids... some easy some not so much.

You have taken this cat in... so you are responsible to train it.

Like kids you are going to have to be more vigilant with this naughty boy  Make sure to clean the bed he peed on.

I use alcohol because it does not hurt the materials and completely cleans out the smell.

I would lock the cat out of this room... he has other areas to sleep in.

Keep working with it... you may also spank the cat EVERY TIME you catch it on the bed... a firm open handed spank on the thy.  Saying a firm "NO"  or "OFF" at the same time...

eventually when you say "NO" or "OFF"  it will think >spank.

Keep working you WILL suceed !

  5. That's too bad...I had a similar situation that I dealt with for 9 years. My cat was fixed and seemingly healthy too. We tried all the tricks - sprays, carpet cleaning, locking her in one room, cleaning the litter box everytime she went, nothing worked.  We tried to blame it on bladder infections or UTIs and we were continuously taking her to the vet all the time. We did notice that she did it most often if we had friends over, like she was jealous. Finally our vet told us that it was a personality disorder and my mom had her put down after all that time. It was very sad, but our house started smelling better. It might be that your male is just so jealous of the female that he's acting out. Maybe it would be best to take him to a shelter, or place an ad so that you could chose his new home yourself. Good luck with whatever you decide!

  6. He is probably marking his territory.  Have you had him "fixed" yet?

Trying to punish him will not work.  The only thing may be to put food where he is marking, or figure out why he is marking.  Are the other cats infringing on "his" territory?, does he see other cats outside?, etc.
