i have a cat 1 and a half years old. and I'm 15 and my mom wont let me take it to the vet. she was an idiot and let poor whitey (cat) out and it went missing. she was like it loves the outdoors. I'm like what the h**l. my stupid mom wont let me take it to the vet. and my dad lives in taiwan and if he was here whitey would be at the vet right when we found him. he has been missing for so long that i was already thinking to get a new cat. i know how mean of me. before whitey was once a fat cute skinny. now when he arches is back or lays down. his spine is sticking out. my other cat Ginger hates him for some reason. they are brothers. and I'm 100% sure its whitey. whitey might have survived outside. i don't know but across a few houses is a lady with 2 cats. she leaves food and water outside. but whitey only stays around our house. but we live near trees and high grass everywhere. and we just couldn't find him. so what should i do. my dad suggested me to get a syringe that doesn't have a needle and fill it with milk and feed it to him a few times a day to restore whitey's original weight. please.stuff like go to the vet suggestions and beg your mom wont help. my mom wont let me go!

  1. unless it is special cats milk, don't give it milk.  and if I were you I would call the SPCA or animal control on your mom, denying an animal medical treatment is neglect which is abuse.  hopefully you don't ever get sick.

  2. If your cat has picked up a disease or condition while he was away it could explain his weight loss. Sometimes (not usually seen in one so young) they can have kidney problems and not be interested in food. The only advice I can give you is to tell your mother that you are bringing the cat to the vet and if she doesn't like it she can lump it. There is also the angle that if you see an animal that is obviously ill, it is your responsibility to have it seen to, otherwise it is a neglect issue. I'm sure if you couldn't afford to bring him yourself, the vet would come to some sort of arrangement to pay for his treatment....offer to clean the surgery for him, that kind of thing. Any decent vet that cares about animals (not just his paycheque) will try his best to help.

  3. GEEZE.  Poor thing.  Ok,  first of all, no milk.  It can upset their stomach -cause diarrhea and or constipation.   If he is eating his cat food, just offer him more.  It might take awhile to put his weight back on.  Hopefully your cats have been vaccinated.  Otherwise he could have picked up a really bad virus - leukemia/aids - or worms.   Needless to say, try to keep him inside.  Try to nicely explain to your mom that you are trying to be a responsible person and the right thing to do as a pet owner is take him to the vet.  Maybe she will come around and respect you for that.  I know I would.  Or try talking to your dad again.  See if he will talk to her.  If nothing helps, know that you really tried and no one can fault you for that.  Someday you will be the adult and in control.  Until then,  my prayers are with you and your friend  :)  Good Luck.

  4. Cats don't digest dairy products very well as far as I know. Try feeding him some canned food, just a bit at a time. He'll probably need the protein from the canned food. Make sure he's drinking a good amount as well in case he's dehydrated.

My three cats are related and always fight with one another.

I hope he gets better :]

  5. Some cats have problems digesting milk, so try not to feed him milk. Make Whitey's meals more frequent, like four times a day, but a little less at each meal. That way he won't lose as much energy and fat if you had fed him 2 meals per day.

Feed him high-quality cat food, and lots of canned food like Natural Balance Ultra Formula, and Wellness Complete Health De-boned Chicken, Chicken Meal & Rice Recipe. They have lots of protein to help him regain some weight.

Make sure he doesn't get dehydrated! You can make water a little more appealing by using the special water dishes that have a little fountain.

Are you sure you can't take him to the vet? If you have to and he's getting worse and worse, than what you can do is say that you are going out with a friend. Grab your wallet, and ask the friend to drive you over to he vets. You might feel bad about lying to your mom but it's better than having Whitey die.

  6. Unfortunately, you really have to go to the vets for this. Your cat could have a tonne of problems.

Please, DONT feed your cat milk off the shelf. It's extremely bad for them. They are intolerant to cows milk. It gives them a very bad stomach.

Buy some very high quality pet food to feed your cat with. Something really nutricious that your cat will enjoy.

Apart from that - theres nothing we can tell you. That cat need a vet.

  7. If Whitey has been gone  that long  he now smells strange. So  his brother cat does not recognize him. Animals go  off of smell  not sight when it comes to  things like  that.  Give it time and they should be fine.  As for him being skinny just give him lots of food or  tuna and keep him well hydrated.  If Whitey isn't  acting like hes sick , Don't panic he will More than likely make a full recovery. ( he prob just went  tom cating around town :P   )

I also wanted to say that  it's brave of you to stand up to your mom about  responsible pet care. We need more adults to  care about  their animals like that.  Your giong to make a wonderful pet parent when you grow up!
