Question:

Cat eye cyclo computer not working?

I have a wireless cat eye cyclo computer that is about 5 years old on a mountain bike. The display on the computer itself is fine, everything shows up, I just replaced the battery in the sensor, but the information from the magnet/sensor is not being relayed to the computer. I am a very amateur cyclist who is just getting back out on the bike after not riding at all for about 1+1/2 years. The computer was working fine the last time I rode. The bike is stored mostly in a shed with the magnet and sensor on the bike, the computer part is in the house when I'm not riding. Any suggestions as to what may be wrong? When I do ride, it's mostly on paved/crushed gravel rail trails. I tried wiping off the sensor and magnet, but that didn't help. Any help would be much appreciated!

  1. If you've tried all the other suggestions, your cyclometer may just need a reset. Record your odometer mileage first. Use a paper clip to press the reset button on the underside of the computer. Then recalibrate it and re-enter your odometer reading. If after trying all these procedures, it still doesn't work, it is probably just kaput. These things don't last forever.

  2. You might check for corrosion on the contacts with the battery you just put in.

  3. Make sure the spoke magnet is close enough to the sensor.

  4. It sounds like your sensor on your fork or magnet on the spokes has moved make sure they are align and distance between the two is correct, if the computer is reading that should solve the problem.
