Cat eye problems...help!

Ok i have a cat named brandi she is almost 1 year old and she has recently had a problem with her third eyelid. i guess it is a tear duct that helps keep the eyes watered...something like that. the 3rd eyelid recently started to cover almost 1/3 of the eye. she seems fine and is still healthy as a little kitten. but i am worried it may be a sign of feline type Horner's syndrome. she only has 1 out of 5 signs which is good. the eye is not sunken in, the pupil in is still regular size, and there are no signs of nerve damage. i just don't know what could promote the third eyelid to raise and cover the eye like that. she is a great cat and i would hate to have anything happen to her. any help would be great. thanks.

  1. i dont know but i feel your pain. a big chunk came out of my cat's eye ball. it oozes and stuff and her eye probably is going to be taken out.

  2. She could just have something stuck in there. As long as it's not getting worse I'd leave it be for a week. If after that time it doesn't clear up on it's own it may be time to take her to the vet or at least call and see what they say about the situation.

  3. Thats happened to quite a few of my cats before, and I've had lots and lots of cats. In the cases of my cats it almost always went away by itself. You could call a local vet and ask them on the phone about it. If you are really concerned about it you should just take Brandi to the vet. I'm sure it will get better. Best of luck to you and your cat!! Cats are awesome!!!

  4. Any time the third eye lid is exposed it means there is some kind of illness somewhere.

You have to remember cats are very good at hiding illnesses.

  5. catyracts!! your cat is almost totally blind by now, and that is a major sign of several really terrible things wrong with your cat, if you dont take her to the vet it is going to be bad news, trust me, ive seen this so many times!

  6. Horners syndrome is extremely rare in cats, and without any other symptoms I wouldnt be so worried. The 3rd eyelid in cats does assist with tear production, but has your cat been checked by a veterinarian? If she is having issues producing tears she could have "dry eye" where she would need either drops or ointment daily to keep her comfortable. Typically when the 3rd eyelid becomes pronounced in cats, we associate it with sickness. Feverish, poor "doers" tend to have the 3rd eyelid pronounced during their sickness.. however it isnt constant. If this is nothing new to your cat, and the eyelid has always been pronounced Id have her checked by the veterinarian.
