Question:

Cat has weird litter box behavior that results in p**p being flung around the house?

My siamese cat has a very strange litter box behavior (well I guess he has many). After he poops, he will immediately run out of the box crazy like he is possessed or something. He doesn't even wait sometimes until he is finished fully and sometimes small pieces of p**p land all over the place. He isn't in pain. He seems really excited and like he is playing when he does this (he'll make the brrr brr noise cats make when they are happy). But it has resulted in small pieces of poo being forcefully flung onto the walls, the carpet, the couch, etc.

He doesn't even attempt to ever bury his business, whether it be pee or poo, but this habit of poo flinging is getting annoying. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  1. cats can be very picky of their litter and litter box. your cat may dislike the litter or the litter box. a few things that you can do to try to solve the issue:

    1. change to another brand or type of litter. your cat may be fine with the litter but wake up one day and choose to dislike it

    2. get a different type of litter box. they have covered boxes and uncovered boxes.

    sounds absurd, but trust me.

  2. I'm sorry that's happening although this story is REALLY funny...Try moving the litter box to another part of the house, an area that would make it difficult for him to dash away from. A corner, closet, maybe put up a blockade so he has to jump and maneuver his way to the litter box. Also, try a different litter box (maybe one with a cover?) or even a different litter; changes such as these, even small ones, can sometimes help animals break habits they're developed.
