  1. Why do you refuse to put him down?  You say you're trying to ease the pain of your cat, so put him down!  You're being very selfish by keeping him alive when he is so obviously in pain.  it is hard to lose a pet, especially when that you've had for so long.  But you need to do what is best for the animal.  You're just prolonging his pain, and the inevitable.

  2. sorry but if he's not eating it's too late-our cat was pretty bad but the vet gave her IV fluids for three days and then sub q fluids daily to see if she had enough kidney function left to survive a while longer-it didn't work and she went downhill fast. she was still eating so was in a better way than your cat. you have to get him put down if you are sure there is no hope(get a second opinion if that's what it takes)  as death from kidney failure is a horrific death and the cat suffers a lot-you are the only one who can spare him the suffering

  3. I had a much-loved 9 year-old cat die of kidney failure a couple of years ago, so I have some idea of what you're going through.

I think the question you need to ask yourself is why exactly are you refusing to have the cat put to sleep? Is it for his benefit, or for yours?

You say he has not eaten in over two weeks, so I imagine he must be looking quite bad. You need to bear in mind that, because cats are solitary animals, their instinct is to conceal any pain they are feeling. Given that he is in renal failure - that is to say, a vital bodily function has completely ceased - and he has not eaten in so long, you need to think about how he must be feeling right now. I'm always wary of projecting human emotions and feelings on to animals, but I think it's safe to say that he must be feeling pretty c**p right now. If you accept that, then why do you, as a loving owner, want to prolong his suffering?

Having an animal put down is horrible. I've been through that a few times now, and it doesn't get any easier to cope with. But you need to remember that when you accepted responsibility for your cats well-being, you also accepted responsibility for doing whatever you could to make sure the end of his life is as comfortable as possible.

It seems to me that if you let him to die a lingering death due to renal failure or starvation, you are letting him down and failing to do what is best for him. You may think that not having him put down is the most morally positive option open to you, but "letting nature take its course" is not always the most humane or responsible action. Sometimes it's far better for the animal - although painfully difficult for us - to take him to the vet, hold him while the vet injects him and let him go to sleep in your arms one last time.

Ghastly, but life is like that sometimes. Be strong and do what's right for your cat.

  4. If your VET said he is in KIDNEY FAILURE... this is the point where a person would go on dialisis..

You can't do that for a cat.

The absolute best thing, and the kindest thing would be to put your cat down while it has some measure of life.

If you don't do this your cat will die a painful death.  His kidneys will fill up as well as his blatter... basicly he will drown in he own urine.

Please the kinder thing is to allow him to die peacefully rather than painfully.

I am really sorry you are going through this.. it is hard for us to deal with disease that is incurable ... It is harder yet to make a decision to put an animal down... so I know you will make the BEST DECISION FOR YOUR CATS WELL BEING!

You can put some "Bach's-Emotional emergecy" in his water and that will help a little.  but without eating your cat won't last long.  You are going to have to force feed him.  watered down baby food (meat) in a seringe will help some!

all my best wishes to you.
