Cat keeps going to the bathroom on the carpet!

Question

My cat is about 6 years old, spayed and has been inside using the litter box her whole life. Recently though, she has been going to the bathroom on our carpets..the same spot every time. I clean up her mess and scrub the area, but it doesn't seem to be working. Her litter box is scooped once daily and it's easily accessible. I tried putting her in the basement (where her litter box is located) but instead of going in the box, she went on the carpet down there! I really have no idea what to do about it. What can I do to make her stop? Why do you think she's doing this?

Put carpet in her litter box

your kitty might be telling you she has a urinary tract infection. going potty outside of the box is one way of telling us since they can't speak.  Please take your cat to the vet to make sure there isn't a medical issue with the cat.
