she's never had a bladder problem or anything, and right when we got her she was already litter trained. the fabric of the rug is really thick and really soft so maybe it's just the rug? I don't know, someone please help.

  1. Same thing kept happening to me!   First thing you should do is take the cat to the vet and make sure she doesn't have an urinary tract infection or kidney disease...

Sometimes, when it hurts them to urinate, they'll associate the litter box with pain and start peeing elsewhere.

In my case, my cat had simply taken to my bathroom mat...The only solution for me was to throw it out and use one that I could hang up each time I was done with it.  So, if your cat comes back clear from the vet, you may have to consider getting rid of the rug in question (since even after a thorough cleaning she still may smell 'her spot' and try to mark it again)!

If that is not an option, I suggest trying "Nature's Miracle (or F.O.N. --Feline Odor Neutralize -- the best!) spray to clean the area...Then keep a close eye on her whenever she goes near the area.  If you catch her trying to pee, immediatley scoop her up and drop her in her litter box.  Don't spank or frighten her, it will only make things worse!

    Best of luck :-)

  2. I would remove the rug, and see what happens, personally.

  3. Bad Kitty!

  4. your cat is probably marking its territory

  5. my cat was doing this too. turns out she had a urinary track infection. Take your cat into the vet to get her checked.

  6. You need to take a paper-towel or something and soak some of her pee up and rub the paper towel into the kitty-litter and then leave the paper towel in the bottom of the litter-box for a while so the smell stays in the box good, and if she is not pooping in the litter box put some p**p in it, cats don't like to go p**p and pee in clean litter boxes they need a little bit of dirty in it not a lot but a little bit.  When you clean the box leave some of the dirty litter in it, and take out the rest, but Never, Never clean the litter-box out completely.  If that doesn't work just be sure to supervise her and give her less of the house again for a couple weeks, and just put her gently into the litter-box when you catch her going pee or p**p.  You will have to have time, and patience.

  7. If the litter is scented, that may be the problem.  Try using plain cat litter.
