Cat/ kitten food question?

i have a 14 week old kitten, i've been feeding him dry food only---wellness kitten formula is the brand-which is one of the best cat foods that you can buy as far as i know, i wanted to feed him really healthy stuff and can't afford to do both high quality dry and wet, so i've just been doing dry. is that okay? or am i better off buying lower quality wet and dry. my other idea was that i could occasionally give him human tuna as well as the wellness dry food. what would you recommend, i've been told that once you give them wet food, its really all they want to eat. and my parent's cats eat wet food every day as well as having a bowl of dry that they barely touch available to them all day. i've also been told that you can give your cat only dry food its whole life, but i'm not sure how healthy that is and perhaps it could be outweighed by the fact that i'm buying such organic high quality dry....what are your thoughts?

  1. Dry food is healthier for cats than wet food.

  2. It is fine to feed dry food. With some cats the wet food upsets there stomach. Plus feeding them dry food helps with tooth decay. It pervents it. If you cant afford wet and dry just do dry. Its ok.

  3. Kittens need wet food, and they'll still eat dry food, they'll just cry a little first. I would get Science Diet for both. and don't go down the tuna road, because it might make them sick, and if it doesn't THEY WON'T EAT ANYTHING ELSE!

  4. My cat did fine on dry food his whole life.

  5. Wellness is a good brand but you'd be better off feeding wet. The reason is, in the wild, cats normally get most of their water content directly from their prey items and drink very little. Domestic cats are no different, and because of the fact that they are designed to take in water with their meal, they have a very low thirst drive. Cats often just don't drink enough. This leads to urinary tract infections and crystals. The bit about dry food being better for teeth is a myth and has not been proven in the least. Canned/wet food is better because it more closely mimics the cat's natural diet. More on why canned food is best:

  6. I know the canned cat food can eventually get expensive.  My vet told me to add a little bit if water to her dry food to make it more moist so that it was easier on her tummy.  She did usually eat dry food until she got urinary track infection from not having enough moisture in her food. You can mix dry and wet kitten food together, we did that when our two kittens were born and they have had only dry ever since. They have never had a problem but we do buy the more expensive dry food for them.  They are just like family.  The lower quality food has more fat so they like it more but it doesn't have as many vitamins as the higher quality food. They will tell you at the pet store not to buy food that has any kind of by-products in them because that is any part of the animal (chicken, cow, ect.) they threw in the mix.   Have fun with your new baby.

  7. Kittens really don't need wet food. It could make them less apt to eat their regular food, but mostly it is just unnecessary. If some weeks you can afford it, buy them some good quality wet food and use a little at a time for a treat, and refrigerate it. It is much better to get high quality dry food, and wellness is an excellent choice.

  8. buying wet food for kittens would probably be better..

but since its 14 weeks it it should be fine eating dry food

  9. GIVE THEM MILK.

AND LITTLE PORTIONS OF FOOD. IF U START GIVEING THEM DRY FOOD THEY WILL STICK TO THAT.
