We have this cat, we found her around 3-4 years ago. She has always been a rather secluded cat-she likes people but doesnt seek attention. She stays to herself. She does so to the point that is just strange. She will live in one room of the house for months at a time. And when i say live in i mean she stays in that room and does not come out-ever. She started in our laundry room. We had to keep bringing her food/water/litterbox in there. She stayed there for probably 3-4 months. If you pick her up and take her 2-3 rooms away she would bolt back into her room as soon as you put her down. She moved on from there to another room-restroom i believe. Then after 3-4 months she moved into one of the bedrooms and so on.

Once again-once she picks herself a room she dares not to leave it-not even for a minute and if you move her away from it she goes running back in as fast as she can.

We just put her food in whatever room she has picked to stay in to keep her happy, but i just find this strange. Anyone ever seen a cat act like this? I thought they were suppose to roam around.

  1. It is strange behavior and who knows what this cat has been through before it was lucky enough to find you.

What you can do that I don't think is cruel is to try and socialize her.

If you are going to hang out in the bedromm for an hour, bring her in the bedroom and lock her in with you.Maybe you can figure out a way you can block her in whichever room you are hanging out the most in.

      Best of luck

    Oh and Im obamanated too!

  2. This is pretty interesting.  All cats seem to have different weird traits.

I'd let her be however the cat wants to be.

  3. yes, I have a rescue cat that lives in my bedroom. she does not like to come downstairs or be around other pets. she was horribly abused before she came to me. she was also declawed and almost completely blind then. her eyesight has improved a little but she must feel safe up there.

she runs upstairs and hisses and bites if she is brought down to socialize.

  4. LOL,I have an "upstairs" cat! She is 10 years old and stays upstairs all the time! If I force her to come down, she just hides in the bathroom,or behind the couch,or wants me to hold her.She was a feral kitten, but I would think she would have gotten over it after 10 years! Susu is her name, and she is such a loving and pretty little girl, but she just pefers to be alone.Maybe I should change her name to "Garbo!" So you are not alone - there are a lot of odd kitties out there!

  5. she likes the one room and wants to stay there, she feels safe in this room and u should not take that away from her.

  6. she never got used to you if you have allowed it to happen this long. close the doors, put her in a room with all of you and let her get used to being around people. she was probably abused at some point and is still traumatized

you need to pet her and give her a lot of attention so she sees you as friends, not enemies.

it may take a while, but with love, treats, and patience, she can be rehabilitated,

I would put the litter box in one room. food in another and bed ( or wherever she sleeps in a third,) this way she has to come to different parts of the house and will slowly get used to roaming around a bit.
