firstly thanks for your other answers about cats strange eating habits.

its strange that was the only question i got real answers too,no p**s takers..thanks...

i currently have 4 cats, fluff, tigs, mindy and jess, and we love them all.....ive lost 5 in the past 2 years none to old age, mostly on the road which can be devastating, one died in ''questionable'' circumstances and another who died in my arms after a blood clot..[welling up here...]

so my question is ''WHY DO WE DO IT?''..

why do we get more when we know it brakes our hearts...

as always a thumbs up from me...and thank you.

  1. Because the BUGGERS get under our skin!

Getting a new "baby" really helps HEAL our soul...

It's good for us to have another one to fuss over.  We don't forget but it helps to have the distraction and soften the pain!

I am sure that is also the way god feels about us humans.

  2. We replace them, coz losing them is like losing a part of ourselves, and its always nice to have something there to fill the void, my girlfriend lost two cats a few years ago, but I bought her a new own, and she loves her, she is a crazy cats that likes to have a go at us, knocks at doors etc.

but the long and short, you lose a part of yourself. and you replace the cat to fill the void

  3. because cat lovers are different. we have a STONG connection with our cats and we love them so much. they are great company and they are always there for you when you need a soft friend. We can't bare to live without a cat, even if it is not the same as our previous one.

its not really a "replacement" for our old, dead cats, but more of a new beginning with a new cat. another one to love and learn about and become friends with.

whenever one of my cats die, i get a new one because im just so used to having 4 cats, if i dont have 4, i feel empty!

  4. Because after he/she dies we can't bare the emptiness we feel looking at their cat dishes and litter box.

  5. Because many people can't imagine a moment without living with a cat or dog.

  6. Because you mostly remember the good times. There's no pleasure wthout pain, it's always a trade-off, but usually having a pet as a companion is a very pleasurable experience, which of course makes it even harder when they pass away ......

  7. as much as it hurts when we lose one, they are great company.

  8. Because the sensible thing to do is remember all the fun and laughs and love they gave you, rather then carry on mourning their loss forever. Kind of like the Irish, they have a wake. It's a great idea. Instead of mourning someone's death they celebrate their life.

Do that with your cats and get another one, like did. In fact I got two and tell them all about their dear departed uncles. (Not really their uncles of course.)

  9. Because of all the joy and great memories they bring!  Plus, it is for your own good health.  A pet of your choice can actually lower your blood pressure.  All selfish reasons, but none of them wrong.

  10. Lost our last 3 months ago, haven't yet shared my heart with a baby as we're looking at moving to France and I'd rather be missing out than put any cats through a trauma they don't need when I can wait however painful it is. Got a dog who's old (13 yr old Rottweiler) so not doing anything until it's just us. Hard enough moving as humans so I'd rather wait, especially with cats to give them a new home for good.

We've been really lucky, got cats to 16, 18 and almost 20 years old, and it is luck as however hard we try accidents can happen that are beyond our control. We did rescue a kitten years ago that was rescued from a farm fire (mum and littermates perished, he was carried out by a fireman at four and a half weeks old). He left us at just four years old and having other cats had a post mortem, vet said smoke damage and lucky he came to a caring home as he would have gone earlier.

I've missed them all so much, but then again, the more we love the more we attract love and so the more we have to give again. We can't stop loving because it hurts when they are taken we just have to be grateful for the time we had and be proud of whoever we are that a being as special as a cat has chosen to spend the time it had on earth, with us (I'm sure they know more about this stuff than we do).

I really hope the rainbow bridge is there.

Yes, you're a softy, only the bravest of us are. Cowards don't love.

Expecting more heartbreak in the future.

    Deb

  11. I think we do it because like animals humans get lonely too. They want a companion, someone to talk to and someone that they know won't judge them.

You are a very loving person to take these cats and love them like you do.

  12. because we love the unconditional love the cats give us...we have a c**p day at work, come home and theyre they are...in the middle of the night they will snuggle up to you & make you feel wanted...as babies they entertain us...as oldies they rely on us...they are independant creatures but we NEED them. And yes its sad to loose them- i lose my 12 yr old last month, plus a litter of 5 premature kittens one by one, and my old 12 yr old has cncer and i know he will be going to the cat basket in the sky any day now...but i always hgave a houseful of cats wherever they come from i cannot resist a fluffy face!

  13. Because a bed just doesn't look right without a cat curled up on the end of it.  :)

  14. We do it because we have lots of love in our hearts for these little mites. Ive had more cats than i care to remember, mainly strays ive taken in.

I was labelled a " cat napper" when i was younger because i'd steal the neighbours cats!

I still do it and i'm now 30 years old!  When a cat dies it's like theres a gap in our heart which can only be filled with another - that's why we keep doing it. Because the years we spend with them far outweigh the heartache.
