Has anyone who owns a cat noticed, how if someone who doesn't really know much about ur cat including what gender it is. When they see your cat for the first time lets say, they always immediately assume its a girl. It happened today, my Gran whose staying the week. Her friend came round, and her friend immediately assumed my cat Lapsang was a she. I know its silly to make a fuss, but that really peed me off. Because Lapsang is a male. Cats are stereotyped as girls and it's annoying

needed to get that of my chest

  1. My mom's persian mix, Peppy, is always confused as a girl. That doesn't really happen with the other cats but, just Peppy. A lot of the time if we have people over who don't know Peppy they go "Aww. She's so cute and fluffy." I guess he may look a little girly. His meow is quite high-pitched and he's not very big either. But, I do think that people think of cats as girls first if they don't know, and dogs as boys first. Though this one lady I used to work with named all her cats with boy names even after they had kittens. The oldest mother cat she had was named Frank and the youngest female (I checked) was named Luke.  So, I guess it just depends on the person too. :)

  2. lol actually i think all cats appear more male than females lol... dont knw why... i guess the posture... its tooo 'handsome'. :P

  3. Hm. No one really makes a guess at my cat's gender. They ask for a name, and that lets them know. My cat IS female, though.

  4. I usually assume the other way around actually lol

  5. probably because they are used for slang to refer to a woman's private parts
