Question:

Cat peeing problems...? help please

I have a cat, about 6 months old, and lately it seems he doesnt want to pee in the litter box all the time. There was this certain sheet he had peed on, I washed it and while it was on the bed waiting to be put away, he peed on it again! I had originally thought the sheet was the problem and threw it out ( out sheet anyway...). Well, we have this blanket, thin, like a big piece of fabric, and for some reason, it wound up on the floor, well he decides to pee on it. It seems like he only pees on blankets or pieces of clothing, or fabric. This is a problem but I dont know what to do about it or how to fix this problem - any ideas would be greatly appreciated. =)

PS. We do have a second cat, both of them get along well, no dominance issues whatsoever.

The cat with the problems is also not yet fixed, Im not sure if this would makea difference, I just thought I would add it just in case.

  1. You might consider getting him fixed and also having him checked for any urinary tract infections. Neutering may help. If he has an infection, peeing on stuff is how he would tell you. Medication would correct that. This also could be behavioral. Is there anything he may be jealous of? If it is a jealousy issue, those don't tend to go away. One more thought...does he exhibit any anxiety ever? I had one once that was horribly anxiety ridden but that didn't show for years. The only symptom til late in her life was peeing on stuff. When the anxiety was finally diagnosed, I put her on Prozac (per the vet) and she was fine-no more peeing on stuff.

  2. Well male cats do spray or pee to mark their territory..since he isnt fixed could this be it? My old man kitty who I had for 18 years would pee on anything left on the floor, a book, clothes newspaper, we just had to keep stuff off the floor.. but he was an outdoor cat at my moms house until he was 11. Then I took him in.. He had never seen a cat box till then.. sure do MISS HIM!
