  1. well the only two things i could think of is that he isn't litter trained or the cat is in some kind of distress.

  2. take him 2 a vet

  3. Hi, first of all I will say you will need to smash the hair ball meds flat on the paw so it cant be flung across the room, put a little on the left paw and a little on the right, spread it around so he will get some of it.. hair balls are no fun!! After a while my kitty actually eats it from the tube!!  Second of all, some cats who are sick will p**p or pee outside the box to signal they are not well.  My kitty had inflammatory bowel disease and it was painful for her to go, my Vet told me my kitty associated the litter box with her pain so didn't want to use it..  please have him checked out, also he may hate dirty litter boxes.. not sure. but either way GOOD LUCK..

  4. Move the litter box to the room he uses. Make sure you scoop it every day! After he has been using it consistantly then try moving it back to the bathroom where you want it.

  5. If he used to use the litter box and just started going on the carpet where he's sure you'll see him, it's possible he has a bowel problem and he wants you to know it. That's what my tabby did when he had pain when using the bathroom. Plus, if he's unable to have a hairball he may be starting to develop a blockage - which could lead to bathroom discomfort. Take him to a vet.

  6. the hairball remedy treatment only works if it actually goes down there throat.....you need to take a glob of it and hold his mouth open and put it on the back of his toungue....for the 1st week you should do it every other day....then just do it once a week......as far as the litter box thing....they have soem stuff you can spray on your carpet so they wont keep doin it in the smae spot.....but after you feed him and give him water....put him in the bathroom....leave him in there with the door closed....even if it takes an hour....you dont want to stay in there....cats need there privacy too.....have you also tried switching kitty litters??

  7. The only other thing I can think of is to take him to the vet and see if they can figure out why he is doing that. Maybe they can show you a better way to get the hairball medicine down him.

  8. I would try putting the litter box in another place.  he's doing his business on the carpet because he's either not liking the location of his box, or he's mad at one of you for some reason, or he's mental.

As for the hair balls.  There are several "hair ball remedies" on the market, that you could try.  Not to mention cat food especially designed to address this condition.

    Good Luck.

  9. take him to the vet and ask the vet

  10. Make sure you are maintaining a clean litter-box daily and that the litter-box is not covered. Some cats do not tolerate covered litter-boxes because they contain smells (which is the perfect reason why people like covered litter-boxes). However, imagine going into a restroom where the toilets weren't flushed and there was poor ventilation in the room and the smell was horrendous. I would hold it till I got to a cleaner restroom (ie. your absorbant carpet). Also if he is the only cat ideally experts like Dr. Bonnie Beaver,  a veterinary behavioralist at Texas A&M, say that you should at least have a litter-box per cat plus one. Two litter-boxes in a single cat household that are not covered and well maintained are what's first and formost recommended for feline litter-box behavioral problems. Sometimes pheormone defusers and sprays can help the situation.

Normal defication in an inappropriate place is typically a sign of an unhappy cat. I bet it is the litter-box's fault ;)

The hairball issue or coughing could me numerous things. Coughing is a common sign of heart disease in cats. This you must see your veterinarian for ASAP!  Although if it is truely a hairball he could be dehydrated and need more or a better water source. Look into Drinkwell fountains.

    Good luck!

  11. the bathroom problem is probably caused by early adoption. if the kitty gets taken away from it's mom too soon, then it doesn't learn how to use the litter box.

for the hairballs, give the cat hairball remedy food. Purina is a good brand.
