Question:

Cat recovering from minor surgery, and won't use litter box

My cat had surgery for a nasty bite wound on the top of his tail on Saturday. He had to undergo full anesthetic to have the surgery, and whilst doing so was on a drip. He has a couple of big stitches in his tail which the vet said will need removing in two weeks. Until then, they advise to keep him indoors, and put the dreaded 'lamp shade' cone on him to prevent him l*****g the wound.

He was ok sat night, just drank lots and slept, but the last 48 hours has obviously seen him get back to his normal personality, and now he cant work out why (a) he can't get out the cat flap and is not allowed out , and (b) his sister still is! I have a litter tray all set up for him, which he used as a kitten, but he will only pee in it, nothing else. I mean, its been nearly 3 days now since we took him into the vets, so not sure how long before that he went, but its concerning me now. I have been removing his 'cone' every few hours so he can eat and use the litter tray if needed as he won't use it with it on.

He is still eating as normal etc, I think he is just being stubborn. Any ideas anyone?

  1. Having anesthesia slows the body down, so perhaps he's struggling to go. Call the vet and ask for some advice on what to do.

  2. maybe you should call the doctor. until then just teach him all over again

  3. Keep putting him on it until he actually does a number 1 or 2 (Y)
