Cat scratched eye...go to vet? Heal on it's own?...

I think my older cat scratched my 18 week old kitten in the eye. I just noticed her eye is a little puffy and it seems to hurt her to open it...a lot like if a human got poked in the eye. Should I take her to the vet tonight or will it heal on it's own. I did call the vet and they didnt seem like it's an emergency. If it is still bad I will take her tomorrow. I just want some input from someone who might have had the same problem...Thanks!!!

  1. I would not hesitate to take your kitten to the vet!! The vet will have some creme you will need to put on the outer part of the eye that will heal it, otherwise it could get infected and she could lose her eye!!!

  2. It would really depend on whether the wound was actually on the eye or just on the skin around the eye. If there's any sign that there's something wrong with the eye itself, don't hesitate to take her right away. If it's on the skin around the eye, there's a smaller risk for serious problems, but you'll still want to keep a close watch on her and make sure that it doesn't get any worse.

  3. Please get the kitten to the vet now,  problems with the eyes can go wrong very fast!  Do Not put anything in the eye without getting it from the vet.

  4. you should take her to the vet.  This happened to my dog and the vet said he could have lost his eye without the medicine, which was in the form of eye drops.

  5. I don't think it is a emergency and I think your plan of going to the vet tomorrow is fine. You might try wetting a cotton ball and wiping the eye out, but do not put anything into the eye that the vet doesn't order. The vet will be able to put staining drops into the eye and check for any injuries They will base what they give you off of what they find. Of all the cats I have taken in for this it has never been a scratched eye. Several were eye infections and one was an allergy, but you never know until it is checked out. Hope your kitty is feeling better soon.

  6. Take her tomorrow so she can get eye drops to prevent infection and blindness.

Thanks for asking and taking care of your kitty!
