Question:

Cat sleeping with mouth open?

I'm a little bit worried about my 9 year old cat. She has always been healthy and has her once a year vet checkups. I always ask about things to look and watch out for, and my vet told me once if I notice that my cat sleeps with her mouth open, it could be a sign of heart trouble. My new vet (my old vet retired) said she has never heard of that and not to worry. Ok, I'm still worried. I called another vet just to ask and they said it could be a sign b/c she not getting enough air to her lungs. My cat has always been indoors only (I don't smoke and no one has ever smoked around my cat). She acts like normal otherwise and plays like a kitten still. If you have a cat , do they sleep with their mouth open? Has anyone else heard of this? I'm worried about my baby=(

  1. No, cats don't sleep with their mouth open usually.

Unfortunately, our cats did when their lungs weren't working properly (the not enough air thing).

I recommend having your vet do a chest x-ray so that you can be sure that there is no growth or anything happening around the heart or lungs.
