Question:

Cat still has fleas?

My cat had fleas last week. I gave her a flea shampoo bath, put on some Sentry Flea and Tick Killer, and Flea Powder. I don't see any fleas but see some black curls(comma) that look like flea dirt. She is still scratching and it looks like she has two little holes in her head (loss of hair near her ears) what should I do next. Put more flea powder on or something?

  1. Most likely you would have to go to the vet or online and buy some Frontline or Advantage. That Sentry stuff doesn’t work.  Also Raid has some flea spray comes in a purple color spray can, spray this all around the house.  With both of these the fleas will go away. Don't be stingy when spraying.  Don't put more flea powder on the cat that might be making the cat scratch more.  I don't like any of that stuff because the cats l**k themselves to clean. Good Luck.

  2. Brush your cat and if she is still scratching she might be having an allergic reachion to the flea stuff. Bomb the house if you see more fleas, they are nasty good luck. Take your cat to the vet to ask him or her.

  3. get some "Revolution" or "Advantage" from your vet.

  4. Your cat has fleas AND earmites! Do not put more powder on her. Her system is already taxed on poisions that have been shown to be ineffective and harmful.

You're going to need a vet in this case. Not to cure the cat per say... but to get you the meds you need for the mites. Also to confirm its mites not yeast. They present the same and you need to be sure as treating for the wrong thing can make the condition worse. Some cats also just naturally have dark ear wax. It does not mean they have mites. So confirm it before you try to treat.

There are only 2 meds that I have found to work and I have tried them all, not to mention I have tried to treat naturally with every solution suggested to me over the years. I have never had Revolution work on mites either.

Sadly, and much to the cats suffering... none of them work and I have learned to just go spend the money and treat the cats/kittens asap. Also... over the counter meds and natural treatments are not as effective and must be continued daily for 6 weeks because a mites life cycle is 3 weeks and then you have to treat at least another 3 weeks for any mites that may have hatched after the initial 3 weeks treatment.

You are going to want to get Accarexx or Milbemite. Don't bother with anything else.

Either one of these will stop your cats suffering quickly. They are an ABSOLUTE one time treatment and VERY effective. And neither requires ear cleaning before. However if the ears are really bad and filled with mite p**p gunk... cleaning them can kill the mites quicker, hence stopping the suffering of the cat faster.

Please don't hesitate in the treatment of mites. It's painful and can cause deafness if left untreated.

You can buy Capstar and Frontline Plus at drsfostersmith.com . The Capstar will kill all the fleas on your cat almost instantly and the frontline will prevent re-infestation. Use the Capstar right away. It will kill all fleas on your cat with in an hour. It is imperative that you do not skip this. Frontline (or advantage, revolution, promeris, etc.) is only effective if the flea bites the cat. Fleas have a 3 week lifespan and only feed for a few days of those three weeks, so you must use Capstar to kill all live fleas on your cat. After you Capstar add on the Frontline Plus and it will keep fleas off your cat for 30 days. Any eggs that hatch will be killed when they feed by the Frontline. Refrontline every 30 days. No vet visit required and totally safe.

Frontline contains fipronil, which spreads via the body oils killing fleas within 24 hours and ticks within 48 hours. Ticks are generally killed before they bite, decreasing the risk of tick-borne disease transmission. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

Frontline Plus also contains (S)-methoprene, an Insect Growth Regulator, which prevents an insect from maturing or reproducing. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

You can use FRONTLINE flea and tick control once a month and it's completely waterproof. Provide your cat with the best flea and tick protection, right from the start.

Capstar - Treats flea infestations on pets. Starts killing adult fleas on the pet within 30 minutes. One dose lasts 24 hours. Use when pets are likely to be exposed to fleas. Also may be used prior to surgery, boarding, or grooming. Active ingredient is Nitenpyram, which interferes with the normal nerve transmission of insects, effectively killing them. Not a preventive. For pets over four weeks of age. Package of 6.

  5. No, it is too soon.  There are probably fleas in her environment and they are getting on her.  They will all die soon and things will be fine.

  6. go to your vet and get a prescription for frontline I have 6 cats and it works great.  Your cat may be allergic to the powder that you used. Sentry is not a very good brand and it doesn't work very well.

  7. Well the bald spot can be irritations.  My cat had this problem.  Fleas irritate the skin so they scratch alot.  Then when you wash the cat with shampoo it also irritates the skin.  It will clear up in time.  You need to use advantage to keep the fleas off.  Also you need to bomb to get rid of the flea eggs and the fleas living in your carpet.

  8. try combing her, those might be eggs

  9. The things you are using are really no help at all.

Go online and buy Front Line Plus for cats or go to the vet and get it.  Many places carry it.

They have a new one out called Vectra.  It kills them all in less than 5 hr.  But this is not sold anywhere but at a Vet's office.  Just ask for it and they will sell it to you.

Also I have heard but not confirmed by me - if you get some 20 Mule Team Borax for laundry and spread that all around your house inside it kills the eggs........

    Good Luck
