Question:

Cat with protein in urine?

My cat is just over 2 years old. This time last year he had a UTI. He was just diagnoised with another UTI last week, put on antibiotics, & they sent off his urine to check it for crystals since this is his 2nd UTI. The vet called & left a message today saying there were no crystals, but he did have a high level of protein in his sample.

I got the message after the vet closed, but I'm curious about what this could mean since I'd a bit concerned. Anyone have any idea what high protein in urine could be a sign for in cats? Thanks in advance.

  1. Its an absorption problem not uncommon in male cats. Often, changing the cats diet could help. Definitely check with your vet first before changing the diet though.

  2. Protein in the urine really doesn't have anything to do with the protein content of the cat's food.  Proteinurea (protein in the urine) can be a sign of several different things including dehydration, diabetes or a kidney condition.  Try not to worry about it, though.  Considering your cat's young age, I'm guessing (and this is just a guess) that it's not something really horrible.  Talk to the vet tomorrow and find out for sure what's going on.

  3. it means that nutrient that ur cat absorbs from it's food is mostly leaking in his urine basically. and most of these problems starts with kidney problems. just take ur cat to vet and get chekups.
