My kittens got spayed yesterday. We just got them home and they are continuously l*****g their stitches. I stop them whenever I see them, but I'm afraid they're going to pull them out! Has anyone else had experience with this? Thanks.

  1. My cat did the same thing when she got spayed, she licked the surgical glue alot. But still watch out and make sure the wound doesn't open back up.Just keep an eye out.I hope your cats do okay.

  2. Might as well put a flashing light on the area.  Sure they will l**k, and that is all right.  Pulling on the stitches isn't, however, and if you see any oozing or redness, that calls for a phone call to the vet. (Spaying costs normally cover all follow up care, so don't hesitate to call if you are concerned.)   You are probably seeing three stitches, but there are other internal ones.  Your concern will greatly diminish after several days, as kittens heal very fast.  My two kittens were wrestling and gut kicking each other within several days of being spayed.

Your vet instructions probably tell you to keep them from jumping up on furniture and climbing stairs.  I have always enjoyed a good laugh with my vet over those instructions.

And the last kitten I had spayed removed her own stitches the night before the appointment to have them removed.  And for one of my kittens who had dissolvable stitches, they didn't and had to be removed by the vet.

  3. it would be VERY bad if the stiches come out, so it's good of you to worrie. If I were you, i'd call the vet, and see if they can't get you a kitten sized cone. They might not like it, but it is extreamly usefull.

  4. Definatily stop them, go back to the clinic and get kitty size e-collars for them . they will get there stiches out and you will have bigger problems
