Question:

Cat won't take pill?

My cat hasn't been taking pills with a pill gun, and mashing it up in her food doesn't help much either. If i even get the pill in her mouth, she spits it back up and drools everywhere. Is there any other way to give her the medicine?

Thanks in advance.

  1. have somone else wrap the cat up in a towel, so it doesnt claw the S**t out of them, and hold her. that way you can use both hands. open her mouth and push the pill back into her throat as far as you can. quickly shut her mouth and hold it shut until she either swallows the pill (rubbing her throat might help this) or the pill dissolves.

  2. ok, try squishing it in some cheese... does your cat like apple sause? grind up the pill and mix it in with a little applesause.  melt some sugar on the stove, roll the pill in it and then let it kool, then try feeding it to your cat. i dont know if it will work but i hope that this helps! :)

  3. I've giving one of mine 1.5 pills x2 a day.  We grab him (usually takes 2 people, but not always), force open his mouth, toss pill down in there, hold his mouth shut, rub his throat gently in a downwards motion to get the swallowing reflex going (that can take a little while).  It works most of the time.

He was unable to hold down food (he's getting better), so that's why we haven't been using the pill pockets.  I would try them if the situation was different.

    good luck!

  4. If you add the pill to food or milk, make sure your cat eats or drinks it all or your cat will not getting the whole dose. When I have to give my cats (I have 4 ) or a patient (work at a vet hosp.) I just grab the cat, tilt the head back and put it very far down the throat. It works for me.

    Good Luck!

    PS

why are you giving your cat pills?

  5. I have trouble giving my cat a pill. I brought those pill pockets but he will not eat them. My cat is very finicky and those thing smell really bad.

  6. Open mouth.

Shove pill in as far as possible.

    Hold mouth shut.

Blow in cat's nose, that makes her swallow.

  7. put it in its mouth and hold it shut its the only way, they will have to swollow to breath.

Harsh but effective, thats what I and the vet does.

alternatively try it smashed up in some tuna you never know.

  8. try the dog instead

  9. Yes, they are called pill pockets.  They are available at my vet, but you can also buy them offline.  They are also available at some pet stores.  They have to consistency of play-doh.  Worked wonders for me.  Good luck!

  10. well you can get some cat milk and a pill crusher and sprinkle it over the milk. cat milk usually works. you can try pill pockets also. if your using the pill gun and its not working your probably not doing it right the point of the gun is to shoot the pill down the throat to eliminate the spitting out of the pill. shoot the pill down the throat and close the cats mouth and massage his throat. dont stop until he swallows. he will swallow.

  11. go to a petstore and see if they have pill pockets. they work well and are not messy
