Atletico Madrid made a profit on the transaction that saw Dominguez head out and Diaz join the roster. While the Spanish stopper earned 8 million Euros for the financially stricken club, the experienced defender commanded a meagre 1 million Euro transfer
fee.
Reflecting on his transfer from Getafe to Los Colchoneros, Diaz voiced his desire to do the best in his new club and claimed that he has enough in the tank to replace the departed youth academy graduate.
Continuing on the topic, Diaz played down suggestions of increased pressure on his shoulders in his bid to cement a first team place.
"He (Dominguez) has played here, come through the academy and is important for the club but I have come here to do my bit and I have the same pressure all players have when they arrive at a new club.”
“I don't think that my coming here and Dominguez leaving will bring me more pressure than the others.”
Responding to questions about his transfer from Getafe, Diaz revealed that once he became aware of Atletico’s interest in his services he made up his mind to jump trains.
He added that he is optimistic about his chances and will prove his mettle on the pitch as words cannot complete do justice to his ambitions.
"When a team like Atletico became interested in me I wasn't in any doubt. I am arriving with a lot of desire and happiness. I want to demonstrate that on the pitch because with words I can't say very much. I hope it will be a good year for the team."
