Catalan Dragons acquires services of New Zealand born forwards’ player Louis Anderson - Rugby
The Catalan Dragons, who compete in the Engage Super League competition, have acquired the services of Anderson from their English rivals, Warrington Wolves. Dragons’ officials have confirmed the signing of Anderson on a long-term contract in a statement
released on their website on Thursday, July 21.
The French club, Dragons, have handed over a three-year contract to Anderson as they intensify their recruitment drive to strengthen their squad for next year.
Catalan Dragons head coach, Trent Robinson, has expressed his delight at securing the services of the experienced second row forward. He has praised Anderson’s skills, physical attributes and his experience of playing at the international level. He has spoken
highly of his strong on-field performance in the Engage Super League competition for the Wolves.
Robinson further added, “Louis is an exciting signing for us for the next three seasons. At the age of 26 and with the experience he will bring, he would be a great addition to our squad.”
The Dargaville born Anderson is a former New Zealand international rugby league player. He started his professional rugby league career with New Zealand Warriors in 2004 when he joined Warriors at the age of 19.
During his three years stay at the Warriors, Anderson played 67 games for Warriors and scored 28 points which comprised of seven tries.
The 26-year-old has played 17 international games for New Zealand’s national side. In 2008, he joined English Professional Rugby League side, Warrington Wolves. He so far has played over 85 games for Wolves and has scored 76 points for them.
Anderson was part of the Wolves outfit which lifted the 2010 Challenge Cup. Wolves defeated Rhinos in the finals to claim the title.  He was also selected in the Exiles squad to play the International Origin Match against the England.
In addition to this, Anderson was also named in the Tongan National Rugby League team for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup. However, the injured player ruled out his participation from the tournament.
Anderson has expressed his excitement on joining the Dragons. He has stated his desire to play an effective role in order to bring success to the club. He has also praised the club’s recent performance in the 2011 Super League tournament.
Anderson further added, “They have been outstanding this season so far. I am also looking forward to the French lifestyle and enjoying a different culture in a wonderful country.”
Catalans are currently ranked fifth in the 2011 Super League points table with 27 points. They so far have won 13 of their 22 games in the season, drawn once and ended on the losing side in eight. St Helens and Huddersfield Giants are placed at third and
fourth place with 29 and 28 points respectively.
