http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giovanni-Marchese-c14995 reiterated that the team is still hungry for a place in Europe next season, and will be looking to capitalise on the remaining matches.
Catania have been regarded by many as the find of the season and have increased their playing standards since Vincenzo Montella came at the helm of the Rossazzurri. They
are fighting with greater hunger and more discipline, which has seen them frustrate much opposition.
The Etnei left-back has voiced his opinion that the club is still in contention of Europe and would be playing to the best of their abilities in the remainder of the matches.
A few weeks ago, Montella’s men were within touching distance of attaining the fifth spot of the Lega, Europe was considered a realistic target by the President of the club who stated that anything less than Europe would be a disappointment.
Despite Montella’s claims of not getting under pressure from all the talk of Europe, it apparently seems that pressure got to Catania, as their impressive form took a dip
and lost out to the relegation battling Lecce and lost out to Chievo. Montella would have expected to collect some points from the two games, and even though there are still six matches remaining in the Lega, it remains to be seen whether Catania can put their
recent woes behind them to rally for a finish in Europe.
Marchese stated his opinion that he felt his team were still within the possibilities of finishing for the European spots. He was talking to assembled press and mentioned
that they need to work even more hard to ensure that they are the victors in the remaining matches. The defender also stated that their game against Atalanta would be a tough one and commented:
“We are staying calm and focused. And we will look to do well against Atalanta, a squad you have to face without making any mistakes.”
He further commented on his beliefs and said:
“We still believe in Europe - we like to win and to achieve the goals that we have set ourselves. [This game] is a chance to show we are mature enough.”
Catania would be facing off Atalanta in the week 34 fixture of the Serie A.
