Catano wins title match of Puerto Rico Women’s Superior League – Volleyball news
The final match of the Puerto Rico Women’s Superior League took place on Sunday, April 15.
The tournament was being staged in the Puerto Rican city of Guaynabo. The two teams that were able to make it to the final match of the tournament were that of Catano as well as that of Caguas.
The title match took on thrilling tones as the defending champions Caguas as well as its rivals put on an impressive show of volleyball skills that stretched the game to five sets. At the end of the day, the Catano squad was able to get its hands on the
win at 3-2.
The scoreboard showed the following final set scores in favour of Catano: 25-20, 21-25, 9-25, 25-18 and 15-12.
The title of the Most Valuable Player of the series went to Courtney Thompson of United States. Thompson was able to make her mark in the tournament by averaging 26 assists per game.
Thompson expressed her feelings on the match by making the following comments, “We started to click at the right moment. We won eight strong matches in the semi final and final series and we have a lot of respect a great opponent like Caguas.”
The recent win has enabled the Catano squad to earn the honour of representing the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) at the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship. The FIVB World Cup is scheduled to be held in the month
of October this year. The city of Doha in Qatar will be playing host to the event.
The player that was able to earn the title of being the top scorer of the match belonged to Caguas. Stacey Gordon of Canada was able to keep the pressure on her rivals by scoring a total of 23 points in the entire match.
On the other hand, the most active player on the Catano side was US’s Angela Forsett. Forsett was able to make her presence felt by putting up a total of 15 points for her team. Forsett was helped by Oneida Gonzalez and Tatiana Encarnacion, each of whom
added 12 points.
