Question:

Cataracts back for a third time?

Hello, I had cataract surgery on both eyes when I was 16-17 years old. I then got the "secondary" cataracts zapped about 3 years ago. I just turned 22 and I cannot see clear at all out of my right eye (this happened about a month or 2 ago). My left eye is perfect though. Can someone (preferably optimologists) help me please?

  1. This may not be a cataract at all.  It could be occurring within the cornea or retina.  You should go as soon as possible to have it checked out....especially if it was a sudden loss of clarity.

  2. See your eye doctor as soon as possible.  Cataracts do not return for a third time, there must be something else wrong.

There are hundreds of different reasons why your eye would be blurry, only an eye exam will provide an answer.

  3. If you had cataract surgery and a YAG capsulotomy in your right eye, and now you can not see, you should return to your doctor as soon as possible to have an eye exam.  You need an eye exam to determine the cause of your vision loss.

  4. study dr william bates and his work.

  5. I can't help you at all..But i can surely relate to you. I got a cataract in my right eye when I was 4 years old. My opttimologist and surgeon told me I was one of their youngest patients ever. It was very shocking to my parents..Sorry that i can't help. i hope that all goes well , it must be very scary

  6. Cataracts don't return. It's like a M & M candy (plain) -- the chocolate is the natural lens of the eye and the candy shell is the posterior capsule -- it's a thin membrane surrounding the lens/cataract.

The drs remove the natural lens of the eye (called a cataract when the normally clear lens begins to 'cloud' and yellow --- like an old person's fingernail.)

They replace your natural lens with an artificial clear lens, but they leave the capsule in place. Of course, that capsule has been disturbed during surgery but the drs leave it there with the expectation that it will stay smoothly around the new lens.

However, in some cases, it begins to wrinkle (think of smooth Saran Wrap versus wrinkled), eventually causing blurred vision so that people think their cataract is "growing" back.

Laser treatment (YAG capsulotomy) can be done to remove some of the central wrinkled tissue, and vision can become clearer.

Sometimes, a retreatment is needed. Maybe that's you? In any case, lots of things can cause blurred vision & you won;t know til you see the eye doctor . . . .
