  1. you should always fish on high tide it is also good to fish at night or very early in the morning. i have been fishing in the area you are fishing in and i used  pogies as bait . just cut them into little pieces and cast it out . make sure you have a light drag as big stripers are with the bluefish good luck and good fishin

  2. I fish for blues all the time. I always use cut mackerel. I have caught them in the 20lb up to 30lbs range. I always fish at night. Some say the tides make a big difference, but I always seem to catch them no matter what the tide is. The best bait that you can use is sand ells if you can find them. If you manage to get a good size or any size, keep your fingers away from his mouth or you won't have any fingers. Good luck.

  3. A surf rod will get you some reach.

    Agree w/ kenbgray.

The big ones seem to show up when they feel like it.

If there is plenty of bait in the water & they school close to shore they seem  to be smaller but would still not wade in after them.

Dont call them "choppers" for nothing.

  4. your best odds are sqwid for bait but ive never been finshing where u r but my anwser is go on a pear if they have them in your area.
