Catcher Chris Iannetta signs three-year deal with Los Angeles Angels – MLB News
After a disappointing season, the Los Angeles Angels have started to rebuild their team. They know how critical time is right now for making changes in the roster for next Major League season.
Having in mind all these important things for potential 2013 season, the Los Angeles Angels are relying on their veteran players to take control and most importantly take responsibility for the next couple of seasons.
According to some media reports, the Angels' six-year veteran, Chris Iannetta has signed a three-year deal worth $15.55 million with his current franchise.
"It was a no-brainer for us, The presence he brings behind plate, the way worked with the pitching staff as the season wore on, the offense he delivered … a lot of what he does transcends his stat line," General Manager Jerry Dipoto said in the media after meeting with experienced catcher who will now play for the Angels for three more years.
Dipoto not only told the media about Iannetta’s talent but he also explained in the media that he will prove a productive player for the Angels in the next season.
Experts believe that this is part of Angels’ offseason strategy that they will retain some of the players whose contracts are going to expire this winter.
Iannetta has showed good performances in this past regular season. He played with .240 hitting average along with nine homers, 26 RBIs and .332 OBP.
Dipoto added showing more confidence on Iannetta and told the media about Iannetta past season’s performance as he said, “You saw so many eight-, 10-, 12-pitch at-bats that wore down opposing pitchers and turned over the lineup for Mike Trout, Torii Hunter Albert Pujols, The quality of his at-bats was tremendous. We believe in Hank's future, whether that means his opportunity to be an everyday player comes later in his career or whether he's in more of a support role.”
Not only this year, but his performance has been pretty consistent for the last five seasons as well. His .236 hitting average along 72 homers, 262 RBIs and .354 OBP also shows a steady and upward graph of his talent.
