Catcher Henry Blanco to sign with Toronto Blue Jays – MLB News
Catcher Henry Blanco will be signing with the Toronto Blue Jays for $750,000 one year contract. Blanco is a 15-year Major League Baseball veteran with 69 home-runs, 284 RBIs and an average of .227.
The Blue Jays had a forgettable 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. Sitting second last in the American League East Division with a 73-89 win-loss record, the team will be hoping for a better performance in 2013.
Toronto will not have any easy task next season as they sit in the AL East with powerhouse teams like the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles. If they are looking to compete with teams of this calibre, they will be hoping
their roster remains healthy and fit during the upcoming Spring Training sessions.
The team just did not seem to be in synch last year as they were dominated by other less talented squads. Getting back on track is a priority for the Blue Jays as they are definitely a talented team. Adding players like Blanco will help them gain some valuable
experience to their line-up.
The fans are hoping that the Blue Jays can turn their fortunes around in the upcoming regular season. The team has to be aggressive from the start if they want dominate some of the other teams like the Yankees.
It will be interesting to see what different moves the Blue Jays make to increase some depth in their squad during the offseason. Most of the high quality players have been gobbled up by teams with massive budgets, as it will not be a surprise to see the
Blue Jays make a mid-season trade for some decent players that can put them on to their winning ways.
Blue Jays inability to make it to the postseason was a great disappointment for the team and the fans as well. The most dreaded thing for the fans is that if the Blue Jays continue losing games on a regular basis and fall in to a slump then many of their
players might jump ship and move to greener pastures.
However, by acquiring Blanco, the Blue Jays are showing that they will be doing their offseason purchases carefully with some sort of precision. Basically filling their needs on a position basis to avoid overlaps and more importantly save some money in the
process.
Only time will tell if the Blue Jays have made the decisions during the offseason as Spring Training is right around the corner and the fans will be scrutinising every game to search for faults. Hopefully the Blue Jays will return to their winning ways and
come out firing on all cylinders to mix up the AL East Division and show their true potential in the upcoming 2013 MLB regular season.
