Catcher and outfield issues will be on agenda of New York Mets’ Winter Meetingss on Monday-MLB

General Manager for the New York Mets, Sandy Alderson has little money to work with. To resolve pressing issues with the outfield and the need for a catcher, he will be going through rigorous discussion in the Winter Meetings on Monday.
Only through innovation and smart moves, he can assure the club a roster which has all kinds of players that can successfully lead the team’s 2013 season expedition.
Relatively affordable options in the free agent market for outfield help are Shane Victorino and Angel Pagan.
However, they too are least likely to agree on what the Mets may offer them. Especially Pagan, who had an amazing year with World Series Winner, San Francisco Giants during 2012 season, will be hard to acquire for the Mets.
Pagan will be aware of the benchmark price in the outfield market, which was recently set by the Atlanta Braves by signing B. J. Upton at $75.25 million for five-years.
Although Pagan is not as capable as Upton is, certainly he can use the contract of the latter to strengthen his bargaining position.
As far as Victorino is concerned, he can be bought by the Mets but unfortunately he is being pursued by other organisations at the moment. Even the Philadelphia Phillies, which is his former club, is among the probable teams to sign Victorino in the free
agent market.
As a last resort, the Mets can trade their Cy Young Award winner from the National League, R.A. Dickey and get the required players as a part of the deal.
Considering the current high trade value of Dickey, he can be put in the market as a large list of organisations can be attracted toward him by the Mets.
The interested teams will be probably more willing to give away their star outfield prospects along with a catcher in order to obtain Dickey.
That scenario however will disallow the Mets to enter 2013 Major League regular season with a luxury of a knuckleballer who will ensure consistent successes to the team.
Winter Meetings will be important from the point of Dickey’s contract extension chances.
Fans will be anxiously waiting for the outcome, because it may decide which team their star pitcher plays next year.
