hi. My pet parakeet is sick and I need totals him to the vet. I need to get him into a smaller travel cage for the vet, but he isn't very tame and I dont want to hurt him. How do I go about this? I tried holding up the little cage to his cage with both doors open and a treat inside but it didnt work. Also, I dont want him to escape and fly into a mirror or window. Help!!!

  1. 1.You might get nipped, but you also need to get him to the vet. Put your hand outisde the cage like a perch and hope he'll come to it.

    2. Put his favorite treat in your hand just outside the cage. When he flies on to it quickly put him and the treat in the travel cage. Also, I suggest doing this in a bathroom or another very small enclosed room.

    3. If all else fails, get a leather/gardening glove and gently reach into the cage, gently VERY gently grabbing him (holding him like an ice cream cone, wings under your had so they don't get hurt) and place him in the travel cage.

If ALL of these fail, consider taking the whole cage to the vet. Good luck, God bless.

  2. It depends where he is. You could try putting the little cage in front of him, and nudge it slightly above his feet, kind of in his stomach area.

I have four parakeets (only one of them untame) and when I try to get them to climb anywhere, I have to apply slight pressure above their feet, and they naturally step up.

If he absolutely will not go in, you might have to be a little aggressive. Not so much that he will get hurt, but just so he will go in.

    Hope that helps!
