Cate Campbell wins Women’s 50m freestyle semi-final – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Cate Campbell of Indooroopilly won the semi-final of Women’s 50m freestyle on seventh day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Wednesday, March 21.
The 19-year-old Campbell devastated her opponents by snaring to qualification spot in the playoff of single lap freestyle event.
With her epic performance, she stayed slightly ahead of her sister and teammate, Bronte Campbell, who transpired on the finishing end as second best swimmer.
Campbell occupied top qualification spot of the event with timing of 24.55 seconds. Her sister remained just 0.23 seconds slower from her and tapped the finishing wall with an effort of 24.78 seconds. The 17-year-old Cate was followed by Libby Trickett of
Chandler, who was just 0.08 seconds slower and hit the finishing end with the timing of 24.86 seconds for third position.
The fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Yolane Kukla of St Peters Western Swim Club, who suffered a deficit of 0.10 seconds from her former finisher and emerged on the finishing blockade by posting 24.96 seconds.
Her scintillating effort was trailed by Olivia Halicek of University of New South Wales, who was only 0.02 seconds behind and hit the finishing end with the timing of 24.98 seconds.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed a wonderful effort of Benjamin Treffers of Burley Griffin, who conquered Men’s 50m backstroke semi-final by clocking a time of 25.13 seconds. He was chased by Daniel Arnamnart of SOPAC, who secured second best spot of
the event by posting a time of 25.49 seconds.
He remained almost half a second ahead of Andrew Gillespie, who captured third position with the timing of 25.97 seconds. Max Ackermann of Chandler snared fourth qualifying position of the discipline as she posted 26.03 seconds. Joshua Beaver of Tigersharks
settled fifth on the finishing end as he remained 0.03 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 26.06 seconds.
Furthermore, Campbell sisters are just one-step away from securing their berth in the Australian team to the 2012 London Olympic Games while the arena enjoyed gruelling forms of all swimmers.
