Caterham driver Jarno Trulli optimistic of a better 2012 showing – Formula 1 news
Jarno Trulli believes that Caterham can improve in the 2012 season and break into the midfield.
Caterham had a torrid 2011 season, due to lack of a competitive car in addition to the power steering problem. The season saw the team make way to the bottom of the table ahead of HRT and Virgin.
Renault failed to secure any points throughout the season but a 10th place finish for the second time in a row helped the team to secure much healthier prize money. Team principal Tony Fernandes was delighted to have been able to secure the prize money which
he said will help the team develop much better in the coming season.
Caterham have been working towards improvement at least that has been the general feeling as they changed their technical team. The introduction of KERS is also going to help the team benefit a lot.
Caterham have decided to retain both its drivers Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen, as they develop their 2012 edition car for the upcoming season. The team hopes that the car will be much more competitive than last year and the drivers will be able to
challenge other drivers on the grid.
Trulli has said that the team will definitely be better next season and with a set goal of breaking into the midfield the drivers know their role.
“I don't want to say I'm going to win races but I think the ambition to leave the group of newcomers and to get into the midfielders one is legitimate. We'll begin showing what we're capable of in the races and score our maiden points,” Trulli said.
“To be honest it wasn't the entire car I didn't like: I had many problems with our power steering and the feeling I'd get from it,” he explained. “But I'm certain this problem will be solved next year and that the car will improve a lot.”
It would be interesting to see how their car fares at the first pre-season testing in February of 2012. The day will shed some light on where all the teams stand before the 2012 season starts.
