Caterham driver Vitaly Petrov raises concerns over drivers’ safety at Mugello circuit – Formula 1
Caterham driver Vitaly Petrov has raised concerns over the safety of Formula 1 drivers at Mugello circuit and called it unsafe and wide.
“I don't think we should have come here,” he was quoted by Autosport. “It is not safe and wide enough. If you lose it, the walls are so close and you will smash into the tyres. It is not for Formula One and, if you lost the steering or the tyre pressure
dropped or whatever, then it will be a big crash.”
Conversely, most of the drivers have admired the Mugello track during the three-day in-season test held this week. Moreover, Nico Rosberg of Mercedes praised the track and said, “Out of 1 to 10, I'd give it 8.5.”
While on the other hand Red Bull Racing driver, Mark Webber tweeted, “Ten laps around Mugello is the same as doing 1000 laps around Abu Dhabi in terms of satisfaction.”
It will important to mention that there have been many speculations that the Tuscan circuit may soon become a Formula 1 race venue.
Meanwhile, Paolo Poli, the director of Mugello circuit expressed that they are making the best of the efforts so as to improve the track. He added that they are testing the capability of the infrastructure and their potential so as to come up with something
extra. In addition, he said that there is still a long way to go, nonetheless, he said that they are determined to avail the opportunity.
“The path is long, but we do not want to miss the opportunity,” said Poli.
Mugello circuit is situated in Italy near Florence. It has been hosting many famous events which include Italian motorcycle Grand Prix, A1 Grand Prix, Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM), World Superbike Championship (WSBK), Formula 3 championship and Formula
1 testing.
Furthermore, the track has recently been used for the in-season test in which all the F1 teams have participated except the Hispania Racing Team (HRT).
Over and above, the future of Mugello circuit seems to be very bright as it has emerged as one of the most favourite race tracks of many famous and talented F1 drivers.
