Caterham hope to make progress with updates in the forthcoming races – Formula 1 news
Caterham technical director, Mark Smith has said that they are hoping to make progress with the necessary updates in the forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
Smith said that they are positively looking forward to reduce the gap to the midfield and have planned to introduce some essential updates for the next two grands prix.
Besides, he said that they are aiming to come up with the significant modifications in the car’s aerodynamics and some slight floor changes in the European GP which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain on June 24.
Even though, they are not certain at the moment that whether they will be able to get the intended benefit out of the planned updates. However, Smith asserted that they are feeling quite confident for the approaching races.
“We have a couple of quite significant updates coming in Valencia and Silverstone,” Smith said. “We will take a look at number of new aerodynamic elements in Valencia as well as some minor modifications to the floor, even though we will not know exactly
what they will give us until we get out on track, we are cautiously optimistic they will help us keep edging ever closer to midfield.”
The Hingham based team has not been able to score even a single point in the season so far. Nevertheless, the team principal of Caterham, Tony Fernandes said that they have got the potential to secure competitive positions in the upcoming races.
“We have people and resources in place to achieve our goal of scoring a point this year, and we are edging ever closer to group of cars that is now tantalisingly close,” he said.
He also said that they are bringing the best out of them to make the substantial developments and the considerable preparations so as to make their position stronger in this year’s championship fight.
It is important to note that there have been seven different winners in the first seven races in the season until now which has made it very hard to make any projections for the races ahead. Nonetheless, it will be very interesting to see how the season
makes progress for all the contenders.
