Caterham need to work hard to join the midfield battle – Formula 1 news
Caterham team principal, Tony Fernandes believes that they need to push harder to join the teams in the midfield by achieving better results in the 2012 Formula 1 season ahead.
The Hingham based team has not been able to score even a single point in the season so far. However, Fernandes expressed that they are not feeling disappointed by their poor performance in the season so far and said that they are confidently looking forward
to score their maiden championship point the German Grand Prix which is to be held at Hockenheimring on July 22.
In addition, he said that they just need a little bit of luck complemented by some hard work to make their position stronger in this year’s championship fight and to score some reasonable points in the forthcoming races.
Moreover, he said that they have planned to introduce some major updates in their car so as to enhance its race pace for the upcoming races to achieve competitive results.
“This is an extraordinary season and it is possible that in previous years gains we have made would have been more obvious. We are still a small team, but we have already made very good progress this year and with a little luck and even more hard work I
know we will make that step into midfield and join battles that are going on ahead of us. We have people to help us do that, and after Hungary we will be moving F1 team to our new home in Leafield and that will mark next chapter in our extraordinary story,”
he said.
Besides, he said that even though they struggled during the preceding race due to lack of pace as their updates didn’t came up to their expectations. Nevertheless, he said that they have been doing a lot of work to create better understanding about the car
to improve its pace and are quite hopeful for the season ahead.
Presently, Caterham are standing at 10th place in the constructors’ championship. Furthermore, they are 6 points behind Toro Rosso and it will be very interesting to see how they perform in the approaching races.
