Caterham optimistically looking forward to perform well in 2012 German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Caterham technical director, Mark Smith has said that they are optimistically looking forward to perform well in 2012 German Grand Prix which is to be held at Hockenheimring on July 22.
Smith said that they are aiming to reduce the gap to the teams in the midfield in the next two grands prix and have already planned to launch some essential updates in the car so as to improve its pace.
In addition, he said that although they could not attain competitive result in the British GP held at Silverstone Circuit with their update package. Nevertheless, they are very hopeful that the track of the forthcoming race will provide them an opportunity
to optimise their potential.
“The back to back weekends in Germany and Hungary mark the last races before the summer break and both should give us a chance to get back to the performance levels we have targeted for this stage of the season,” he said. “We start at Hockenheim where we
last raced in 2010. The team has obviously progressed significantly since then and now we can realistically look at fighting with a few of the cars ahead. In Silverstone we did not maximise the new aero package we brought but the specific demands of Hockenheim
definitely give us a chance to do so.”
Furthermore, he said that if they will be successful in adjusting the exhaust layout and the rear bodywork according to the requirements of the approaching race, they can achieve better results.
At present, the Hingham based team has not been able to score even a single point in the season so far and is standing at 10th place in the constructors’ championship. Besides, they are 6 points behind Toro Rosso and are trying their best to improve
their position in the upcoming races.
Meanwhile, their drivers, Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov are at 19th and 20th place in the drivers’ rankings and are two points behind Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso.
Even though, they have not been able to pocket any points in the season until now, however, they are focussing to strike back in the approaching races.
