Caterham plan development of 2013 car – Formula 1 news
Caterham technical director, Mark Smith has said that their next year’s car will be a development of their current car CT01 on which they are working right now.
The Madrid based team is presently standing at 10th place in the constructors’ championship. Moreover, they are ahead of Marussia and are behind Toro Rosso.
Although, they have not been able to score even a single point in the season so far, however, they are not feeling disappointed over their lack of performance and are positively looking forward to perform well in the remaining nine races after the ongoing
mid-season break.
Smith said that they are currently working on this year’s car and are aiming to prepare it for the next season with some essential improvements. He also said that they are planning to launch some updates in their car in the forthcoming races so as to improve
its pace to score reasonable points.
“We are making the 2013 car very much a development of the current car,” Smith said. “So there's not fundamental shift in what we're doing and therefore we are going to develop this car a little bit further in to this season than we would have done.”
In addition, he said that they came up with a major upgrade in their car in the British Grand Prix. Conversely, they didn’t get the desired results and remained unable to score any points in the race. Nonetheless, he said that they are looking forward to
come up with some important updates in the upcoming races and are hoping to score some points to secure a competitive position in this year’s championship.
“Obviously the exhaust system is a key feature in this, and not that it was news to us, but you have to be aware of any performance losses you might be factoring into package as well as any performance gains. I think that we're focusing on that to release
more performance from the overall package,” he added.
Besides, he said that the tracks of the next couple of grands prix are completely different from the previous races and they must be prepared to give the midfield contenders a tough time in the season ahead.
