Caterham prepared to push midfield in 2012 – Formula 1 news
The new driver, Vitaly Petrov says that Caterham is well prepared to have a tussle with the midfield teams in the forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season setting off at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia on March 18, 2012.
The Russian driver had been given another opportunity to show his talent at re-branded Caterham after Renault (presently Lotus F1 team) discharged him for the new season.
Nevertheless, Petrov feels quite positive with his new team which has stepped forward for the upcoming season after making the considerable improvements and significant preparations during the pre-season testing programme.
Since Petrov had scored the first podium in his F1 career at Melbourne during the last season therefore he had a personal affiliation with the event being held there.
“Melbourne is obviously somewhere that will always be very special for me,” said Petrov.
Furthermore, he received very appreciating response from the Australian F1 fans which he hoped for this year too.
In addition, he said that it was fairly sure that they were not in a position to have the podium fight this year but they would strive at their best to ram the midfield teams.
Moreover, Petrov’s teammate Heikki Kovalainen is also confident that the T3 will prove out to be quite dependable.
“Apart from a few issues in the second test, which were all sorted out for T3, our reliability has been good, and both Vitaly and I put in laps that showed we are close to the pace we want to be. But as everyone knows the tests don't really tell you anything
about where you are against everyone else, so we won't really know anything until Saturday in Melbourne,” said Kovalainen.
Besides, after the last pre-season test at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Kovalainen said that he was completely certain that he had the potential to claim the title if he would have been given a car, competent enough of doing so.
He also said that if the team would keep on making progress he would continue with it and he felt that they had the potential to win the championship title sooner or later.
