Caterham technical head Mark Smith confident about upgrades for 2012 Chinese GP – Formula 1 news
Mark Smith, the technical director of Caterham has expressed that the upgrades made for Chinese Grand Prix, which is going to be held at Shanghai International Circuit on April 15, 2012, will help to improve the performance of the car.
Caterham have not been able to score even a single point in the opening two races of the season held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia and Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
Nevertheless, they are trying their best to make the essential developments and the necessary preparations in order to enhance the pace of the car while they are aiming to score their first points of the season in the next race.
Furthermore, they are quite hopeful that the series of upgrades in the car will help them in reducing the gap to the teams in the midfield in the next two races at Shanghai and Sakhir.
However, Mark said that they still have plenty of work to do so as to bring the best out of the car ahead of Chinese GP while he said that they have been striving to make the critical advancements for the next race since the race at Sepang.
“As we head to Shanghai for the third race of 2012 we know that we still have some margin to work on to extract the best from the car and the tyres in both qualifying and the race itself,” he said. “We have been looking at this in detail since returning
from Malaysia and have a number of plans in place to help us move forwards.”
He added that they have also focused on the issue of brakes for the upcoming race.
Nonetheless, he said that he is feeling encouraged that the updates will prove out to be reasonably good at Shanghai.
“Externally, we will be running the cars in high downforce configurations and we have bodywork updates targeted at increased load and more efficient cooling, given the lower ambient temperatures we will to see in Shanghai,” said Smith.
It will be important to note that the team principal, Tony Fernandes says that his team has come up well in this season as compared to the preceding year.
