  1. Depends on what kind of catfish.  In North America there are bullheads, blue cats, channel cats, flatheads, and white cats, that I can think of right off.  Bullheads will eat almost anything, blue cats prefer live food, especially fish, but will eat fish chunks floating down the river.  Channel cats, will eat a variety of food, but seem to prefer chicken liver, worms, fish, etc.  Flatheads prefer live fish, but they will take worms.

If you're in another country, I don't know.

There are many species of catfish in South America from less than 4", to over 5' (400 + pounds).  Asia and Europe, as well as Africa also have catfish, some getting huge (over 9' and 600+ pounds).

  2. They like REALLY stinky stuff, the stinkier the better. Chicken livers are a good bait to use, as well as cut bait. I have had a good amount of luck recently on dip bait with those dip worms too (just be sure to change the hook and leader on those dip worms. I lost a big one because the knot gave way on me, stupid cheap leader...lol).

You can get a few in the sunset and sun-up times, but the best time is the middle of the night. I start getting my first real bites about 10:30pm. Last night I started dropping my dip worms down at 10pm, by 10:30pm the area must have smelled up really good with that dip bait, because as fast as I could refreshen my bait and drop it back down again I had another bite. Remember that catfish are bottom feeders, so if you want to catch them you have to get your bait within two feet of the bottom.

I haven't had to use chum to catch the catfish, but if you want to in order to increase your chances, something as simple as cat food would work because it would draw baitfish to the area, which would in turn attract the bigger fish. Cut up pieces of fish, chicken, or shrimp would work well too. But since they are bottom feeders, then just getting your stinky bait down to the bottom is all you REALLY have to do.

As far as hook, I've found medium treble hooks or size 3/0 or 4/0 Kahle hooks well. You might could even try circle if you have trouble hooking them up with the others.

Good luck. I hope you catch the BIG one!!

  3. if you are fishing for channel catfish i would try a J hook with a worm and sinkers. Just cast it out and thats how i catch them.

  4. Wow. When I go fishing for fish  the only wfish i get is catfish, I use raw chicken meat on a Eagle Claw Hook , but make sure the hook is long and thin and sharp.Watch out for their barbs though. I stepped on one and Ouch

  5. Yes, I'm a girl but I have caught my fair share of catfish. Chicken liver (in blood) as bait on a medium size treble hook or a small perch hook. It's best to fish at night. That's the way my daddy taught me and I get at least one every time.

  6. depends on river or lake, but iam guessing river

look were the river is kinda still or where struckture is, like rocks, dams, a bridge something of that nature,  i wouldnt recomend treble hooks, theyre to hard to get out of its mouth, if u soak the chicken livers in salt water(only if u want) it will make them more solid and if u put them in the cooler it helps too, instead of trying to use them as a soup, hotdoogs work well too, stick them in the chicken liver blood to make em stink, then just let them sink to the bottom on a weight, tighten ur line just enof to be able to tell if it bites, most of the time the hook will set its self

edit: theyll eat anything that floats to the bottom, old parts of fish u didnt use from a previous fishing trip, just make it stink and chances are if theyre there, theyll latch on to it

and i forgot to say i dont think its called catfish fishing but just catfishing

  7. They've covered it - I'll add a 1/4 ounce sinker - size 1 or 1/0 hook with frozen cut mackeral works great too - in addition to what has already been said....

  8. Catfish dough bait or a big chunk of earth worm on a treble sink to the bottom catch'em sucker.

  9. catfish have a wide appitite every day you don't know what they are going to bite on from day today. i like to take a wide varitity of bait when i go such as bluegills(brim), shad, chubs, and goldfish.but don't throw your dead bait away catfish love dead bait.just make sure when you cut it in half to make sure you cut it half at an angle behind the eyes because catfish go after the eyes.

  10. Rivers are the best place to catch catfish.durning the day look for timbered holes, evenings and night fishing fish the flats just above the holes.

CHUM:the hole and flat 12 hours prior to fishing with soaked dry dog food or cat food these are best chum.broad cast in area.

BAITS:pieces of cut bait like minnows, night crawlers, liver beef, pork, chicken in that order.
