Catfish tips????????

anyone have any good tips on how to fish for catfish i catch em wen i go to the river with chicken liver but was looking for somethin new

yea frozzen shrimp works real well... i also catch a lot on squid when i can get it. use shimp with the peelings still on if you can get them..(walmart)

they also have a sticky catfish bait that you put on in a ball....my husband caught them on worms too....good kuck

chicken livers gave always worked best for me.

bluegills(brim), shad, chubs, goldfish but dead bait is also good but make sure you cut them at an angle behind the eyes because catfish go after the eyes.

My grandfather used to catch blue crab on the St. Johns River in JAX FL and he would bait his crab traps with the catfish guts/heads from his trot lines.

He would set out his trot lines every day using common bar soap as bait!! cut up a bar of soap and put it on the hooks. Next day we'd come out and pull in full stringers of fish... he'd clean them selling the fish to the local resturaunts as well as the crabs he caught too!!

Really catfish will literally eat anything.  I typically use a hand size panfish like a bluegill, cut them to size of cats I'm looking for, usually in thirds or halves, generally I prefer the head cuz I've caughten more and bigger cats with it.  This is the best way if you want to catch cats at average size of 36 inches.  I've lost big ones and i mean big ones, like 5 footers, no joke, i'd get them up close to see their heads are huge.

Catfish are bottom feeders so they often (not always) eat stuff that is dead. And dead stuff stinks so the best baits are often something that has a foul or strong odor. Like cut up bluegill. But the all time best baits for catfish are the folowing:

1. pieces of mackerel (my first choice)

2.hot dogs (my second choise)

3.shrimp (raw)

4.cheese

5.marshmallows

6.prepared store-bought dough bait

7.chicken liver or heart

8.corn

I gaurentee if you try these baits wherever you go at least 2 of them are bound to work. These baits work so well that as long as there are catfish in the area you are bound to catch them.
