Catfromtherock vying to win Champions Maiden
Catfromtherock is girding up his lines to deliver an outstanding performance at Dundalk racecourse where he will compete for the ace title of Crossmaglen All-Ireland Champions Maiden on Friday, April 13.
The David Marnane-trained bay gelding is all set to show his guts against 9 rivals including Ahimsa, That Boy David, Bensoon, Heavy Weight, Sphagnum, Carvelas, Valley Of Stars, Nero Wolfe and Diamond Pro.
The high-value contest over a distance of 1 mile will begin at 7:45 (GMT). A prize cheque of €6,900 is ready for the runners who will carry the day.
As far as Catfromtherock is concerned, the three-year-old talented horse demonstrated some spectacular runs in the last three outings of his career.
After finishing 5th in Group Discounts At Dundalk 2yo Nursery Handicap on October 21, 2011, the brilliant runner moved forward to grab a runner-up rank each in Claiming Race and Nursery Handicap on November 4 and December 2 respectively.
Overall, the dashing horse has participated in 9 events so far. Now he is desperately vying to break his maiden and today’s race will be greatly significant for him in this regard.
If the Liam Queally-owned gelding manages to run to his utmost, his chances to stand first in the Champions Maiden will be as high as 90 percent.
Among the other runners, Ahimsa and Carvelas look to be strong enough on the card.
Ahimsa ran daringly and finished 5th in her last outing on April 7, 2012. The A. P. O’Brien-trained bay filly has 6 races to her name. She clinched 3rd and 2nd positions in two back-to-back races in May and August 2011.
On the other hand, Carvelas has run for just one time to date. Michael Butler’s bay colt grabbed 5th position against 7 rivals in Navan Lock & Key 3yo Maiden which took place on March 16, 2012.
Thus, each one of the above three runners will try every nerve to break his/her maiden. Let us see who gains what and how Catfromtherock justifies the favourite tag. Good luck to all the contestants.
