  1. I am not familiar with Cathedral Cove itself (on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula, in the North Island of New Zealand), but I am familiar with the area, so I may be of some help.

The east coast of the Coromandel has many popular beaches, which are generally all suitable for swimming, and do not have any problems with sharks.

The water is cool during the winter, but from December through to May (the New Zealand summer) it should be warm enough for swimming - for most people.

Hahei Beach, south of Cathedral Cove, is a natural hot-water beach, where you can create your own hot water pool by digging a hole in the sand.

But there are many other good and popular beaches in the area - Whitianga, Pauanui, Tairua, Whangamata, Waihi Beach, and further south to Mount Maunganui and Tauranga - to name but a few.

There are also numerous good swimming beaches, on the east coast, around Auckland City - Maraetai, Mission Bay, etc - and further north up throught the Rodney District - Takapuna, Long Bay, Orewa. Hatfields Beach, Snells Beach, Algies Beach, Martins Bay, Goat Island (Marine Reserve), Tawharanui, Omaha Beach, Langs Beach, Waipu Cove..... and on and on and on!!!

There are good swimming beaches all the way up to the northern tip of the North Island!!

Hope this has been of some help - and your English is fine!
