Can you please tell me what is Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament?

Is this part of the Mass or separate and what happens at this service?

I have never seen it and have only just heard about it.

  1. Here is one way it is carried out.

At my parish church we have Adoration nearly 24/7 and we have Benediction before each mass. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is said, and we sing. Adore te Devote and the priest reposes the Sacrament. We then say a small prayer and go to the main chapel for Mass.

    Here it is on Godtube

    I hope former Catholics count

  3. There was a time in the Church were every Sunday, usually around 6PM, the priest and congregation would gather, the Eucharist would be displayed, and there would be a public blessing...a "benediction."  Few parishes do this anymore, though a few do, especially during the lenten season.  Wiki gives a pretty accurate account below.
