Catriona Matthew performs well at Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2012
Scottish Catriona Matthew, who got off to a decent start in the opening round of Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2012, maintained her momentum in the last three rounds as well, finishing
fourth on the leaderboard.
Matthew came out as one of the strongest contenders from Europe at the four-round LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament, staged at Sunrise Golf & Country Club, as she made
it hard for most of her rivals to play with ease.
Kicking off the tournament with full vigour last Thursday, the Scottish star parred all the holes on the front nine of the first round, and shot three birdies and one bogey on the back nine
to make a steady start.
Matthew displayed her best form in the second round as she fired a 66, ramping up pressure on her rivals. She rattled off three straight birdies on the opening holes and then parrd the next
two holes. She drained another two birdies on the 6th and 9th hole.
On the back nine, she faltered a little but kept her game in control most of the day. She could not judge the ball on the greens of 11th hole and ended up registering a bogey. However,
the veteran golfer diluted the pressure by shooting birdies on the 13th and 15th hole.
“I got off to a really good start.  I birdied the first two holes and pretty close the first three, then birdied the two par‑5s on the Front 9.  So had a really good Front 9,” Matthew said
at the end of the second round on Friday.
“And then just didn't do quite as well on the Back 9, didn't give myself quite as many chances, but threw in a couple of birdies.  So a good day”.
Commentators said that Matthew could have won the event, but she made mistakes on some holes in the first and last round.
She posted a 70 in the fourth round, which saw her card two bogeys and four birdies.
Matthew started the round on Sunday with heaps of confidence as she knew that avoiding bogeys was the only way stay safe in field packed with all the top-ranked LPGA stars.
