Catriona Matthew set to defend title at Archerfield
Catriona Matthew is going to defend her title at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, scheduled to start on May 3, at Archerfield Links in East Lothian.
Matthew is one of the most prominent Scottish female golfers of all times, as she boasts a solid profile on the Ladies European Tour (LET).
Matthew’s presence in the field is likely to attract massive media coverage, as the roster is already featuring several celebrities, who will play the event as non-professional players.
The last edition of the Aberdeen Ladies Scottish Open saw the North Berwick native play a superb game, as she grabbed a landslide 10-stroke victory.
Analysts said that Matthew lives quite close to Archerfield Link, which gives her an advantage over her rivals.
They said that she is expected to receive plenty of support from the spectators — something necessary to keep the momentum going on the course.
Moreover, the 42-year-old star maintains good profile on the Ladies European Tour, as she has recorded four victories so far.
In addition to proving her mettle on the Ladies European Tour, Matthew has also secured 4 LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) triumphs.
Keeping in view her performance in the last edition, it is being expected that the veteran golfer will keep her rivals in trouble on the course.
Speaking to the media about what she has planned for the looming battle at Archerfield, Matthew said that she is in high spirits and will try to focus on her putts.
Although winless in the current season, the veteran prodigy has been trying to prove her worth in different events.
She said that despite failing to record a victory, the season has been good, as she has had a chance to keep her game in shape.
“I feel as if I’ve been away quite a bit this year already. I’ve played events in Thailand, Singapore and then 3 in the US so right now I’m enjoying a few weeks at home before the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open,” Matthew said.
When asked what it feels like to play at her favourite course? She said, “I’m lucky enough to be an honorary member at Archerfield and I feel at home and relaxed there”.
